WORK EXPERIENCE:

   Presbyterian Healthcare Services – Registered Nurse/Relief Charge Nurse             May 2007- Present

  • As staff nurse: Care of low and high-risk patients during antepartum, peripartum, post-partum, and all phases of labor and delivery.  

  • Responsible for fetal monitoring and recognition of normal and abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and appropriate nursing actions.

  • Care of patients during low and high risk labor.

  • Responsible for caring for patients with pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, placenta previa, chronic abruption, cardiac conditions, cancer, fetal demise, incompetent cervix, pre-term labor, diabetes, lupus, sickle cell disease, multiple gestation, and other complications during pregnancy.

  • Care of patients during surgery as circulating nurse for surgical procedures such as cesarean section, hysterectomy, hysterotomy, vaginal cerclage, D&C, and tubal ligation.

  • Care of patients with peripartum complications: chorioamnionitis, partial or complete placental abruption, umbilical cord prolapse, hypertension, diabetes, shoulder dystocia, meconium stained fluid, fetal decelerations, fetal distress, placental accreta, and malpresentations, etc.

  • Responsible for assisting with vacuum and forceps assisted deliveries.

  • Care of newborn infants during 1st 2 hours of life, including resuscitation.

  • As triage nurse: first point of contact for the pregnant patient.  Responsible for initial assessment of patient and intrauterine pregnancy, compiling medical history and symptoms for current visit, relaying information to attending MD or CNM, ordering appropriate labs and prioritizing patients based on acuity.

  • As relief charge nurse: responsible for: floor operations; patient assignments; delegation of tasks; communication with supervisors, physicians, staff and other services; quality assurance of equipment; and patient/visitor relations, during a 12-hour shift.

  • As a preceptor: responsible for orienting new nurses to the unit, including nursing responsibilities, procedures, guidelines and protocols during their 12 week orientation process.  During the orientation process, preceptors are responsible for evaluating the orientee and providing constructive critivism to providing safe and effective care

  • Responsibilities include meeting with patients enrolled in the Disease Management Clinic to help manage their disease.  The diseases we manage are Diabetes, Obesity, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, and Tobacco Addition.  Appointments with patients include lab draws, lab reviews, blood pressure checks, education on disease and management, equipment education, triage, and medication review for MD appointments.
